It's simple enough to bluetooth your phone to the car and well placed mics already exist in cars. My phone has voice controls. Some of them even work.

Yes, they stole an unmarked pickup towing an unmarked white trailer, which they happened to know was bringing the race car instead of the normal hauler, because they didn't want a black team owner be able to race. Makes perfect sense.
