Unions worked so well for US auto manufacturing, what could possibly go wrong?

My not-so-hot hot take: If you don’t spring for pre-check, you are an idiot, and you deserve this.

I look at three things when I’m booking a flight - when do I have to leave home, what time do I land so I can get some sleep, and cost. I fly about 100k miles a year, and I’m typing this on a plane from LA to Houston.

Yes, if you want to stop and have sit-down meals every 4 hours, it’s a great option, if you live in a dense area where that’s possible. If you live in 75% of the country, good luck.

Mathematically, not really. 90% of 15,000 miles per year is 13,500 miles. At 30MPG, that 450 gallons of gas a year. 450 * $2.50 is $1,125 in fuel savings. Speaking as a guy who rents cars about 90 days a year, $1,125 in savings will get spent pretty quickly on rentals for road trips.

Carpet stains, mismatched paint on the bumper, leather is cracked to heck. If this car was perfect, the price might be close, but as is, CP.

This guy is not as interested in the car as the rest of us...

I’m getting very close to the million mile line, and I’ve never had an incident on a plane. I have not driven a million miles, and I’ve been in several car accidents. Worrying about turbulence is just silly - it’s so much safer than a car.

You would no longer be freaking out, so there’s that.

Your reading comprehension is terrible. It need $2k in repairs when I traded it. This does not include all the repairs done over the course of two years. Total two year repair costs, including the $2k deferred to the next owner, was right around $6k. This is ridiculous.

I’m 40 years old, and I’ve owned a lot of cars, from crap-heap beaters, to brand new. I have never had problems with any other car like I did with that Neon. I bought this car with 10k miles on it from the dealership that sold it new. All service was performed at the dealership, and it was current.

You only asked about maintenance, not repairs. I bought the car one year old with 10k miles, and was glad to part with it at about 35k miles, which was about 2 years. In those two years, it developed a freon leak, went through 2 CV joints, failed to start several times, and needed about $2000 in repairs when I traded

It had 10k miles when I bought it, and all the service records from new at the dealership where I bought it, where it was bought new. I maintained it a notch above manufacturer recommendation.

I had a Neon, and it was the worst car I’ve ever owned. Ever. Bought it with very low miles, and it was nothing but poor quality and problems. Then again, that was 20 years ago.

It’s a regional thing in the US as well. I grew up in Pennsylvania, and everyone loves VW. I live in Texas now, and people say they’re unreliable. I’ve had three, no problems.

Now let’s see these on an S Class....

I feel like any sort of eloquent comment I could dredge up would only take away from this article. Thank you.

If this had A/C, it would be super no brainer. Without A/C, it’s just a no brainer. Buy it.

They’ll be built by all those American Technology Giants, like Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, and HIK.

IMHO, and I may be wrong, the recent motorcycle boom was fueled by fuel. Gas prices skyrocketed just when everyone in the US bought an SUV. After putting $115 worth of 87 in the Tahoe, they started looking for a solution. Keeping the SUV and buying an economy car is an expensive solution to the problem, and who wants
