The problem with the tight smartphone integration is choosing a platform. It feels like the late 90's when you hard your Nokia hardwired into your car for handsfree. I think the best outcome is third-party head unit manufacturers come up with something than can do tight integration, but support multiple platforms.

On the Retina Macbook Pros it makes sense. There's a lot of machine crammed into the thin case, they save a lot of room by just soldering the ram to the motherboard than wasting space on user upgradeable slots. The Airs are the same. Only the SSD is upgradeable.
