Are we just hearing the mother’s story here? Has the story been verified? It is surprising to me that children would be removed from a home because they were left overnight at a relative’s house that was not up to par. I feel like there may be more to this story than we’re getting here.

Yes, yes, yes. Your kids deserve to have a house that is clean enough that they can have friends over without worrying. This is not a super-high bar. Kids will not even notice if you haven’t dusted the chandelier since last Christmas, but you need to maintain some level of acceptably clean.
