I guess I just never take my family’s word on anything. I come from a long line of exaggerators, prevaricators, and down-right liars. I assume everyone is as suspicious of old family stories as I am.

Wow. It's so amazing that we have the resources now to actually track down this information and prove or disprove these old family stories.

That’s really interesting...that they believed so strongly in it that they actually took action to contribute. I wonder what the tribe thought...maybe ‘Rich white folks are crazy, but whatever, we’ll take what we can get.’ If I were you, I would be take a DNA test to find out. Not that I'd take any action o t, or go

I totally meant to do that! (Not really...but it does kind of fit.)

I think there’s a lesson here for everyone. Unless you know...absolutely 100% for certain that you have Native American ancestors, don’t embarrass yourself by insisting you do. If if your grandma always insists that her great grandmother was a Cherokee princess, just nod and smile. She probably has no idea what she’s

I know...it was crazy. My husband sometimes calls him ‘Batman.’

I was in Peru a few years ago and the ceviche always came with those weird corn-nut type things on top or on the side. They don't taste great, but they do add crunch. I prefer using plantain chips to scoop up the ceviche.

I really admire people like that. I’m not good at all in these situations. I’m not so much afraid as unsure of myself and how to help. My FIL once stopped a swerving, out-of-control vehicle on the highway by putting his car in front of it and breaking to slow it to a stop. It turns out the driver had a medical

Really? Cause I just saw this on FB. A friend had seen it and wished to share the nightmare. It’s a hissing cockroach cake with cream filling.

I got $51. I guess I buy more books than I thought...

I’m definitely not a Celine fan, but this piece almost made me want to see her live... almost...

America’s Test Kitchen has a fabulous recipe for gazpacho that has become my go-to. It’s very smooth and creamy due to loads of olive oil and time in the blender, but soooooo delicious. I bet even CT would like it.

I can imagine it too. Luckily, my driveway slopes the other direction - away from the mailbox.

My white, Midwestern family always called them tricks as well

Don't put up with it. Tell them if they can't provide a clean place for you to sleep, you'll be visiting only as often as you can afford a hotel room...which I assume won't be two weekends a month...

I regret that I have but one lone star to bestow upon you, because you DESERVE THEM ALL!!!

Same. I always wonder who he thinks is going to clean up after him...his mother?

Mmmhmmm. I just started getting my hair done at an Aveda salon, and I just love walking in there and taking a deep breath. And really, their products aren’t crazy expensive and they’re really nice to use.

I just don’t want it to come out pink. Pastels are great for you younger ladies, but it really wouldn't suit middle-aged me.

Unfortunately, it’s not nearly as light as it used to be, though it still gets quite light if I'm outside a lot in the summer. Getting old sucks. In college, I tried a home color kit, but it didn’t take very well and came out pink. Not at all what I was going for.
