that’s easy. Because people will buy the same game with mild improvements every year. Same deal with lots of annual/semi-regular franchises

you level up in Super Paper Mario, and more significantly than that it had a story and interesting locations and scenarios to visit

Colour Splash is what’s stagnant though. The first three Paper MArios were wildly diferent, but gave a lot of the fans what they want. Colour Splash by comparison is VERY similar to Sticker Star
