Yup, I have a friend whose father after hearing us talk about electric cars switched to an electric car. They have that an some nice small Lexus hatchback. The Lexus hatchback is for long distance cruising as it's super comfortable and quiet despite being small and the Leaf is for general use.

We pay considerably more for petrol than you guys and she had a long commute in the countryside. Still 3000 dollars a year is nothing, I think my family probably spends $10,000-15,000 a year on petrol and diesel.

It can charge from a normal socket. Anyway the average commute is something like 13 miles.

Except for the average commute you would use 0 petrol. I know someone with an electric car who admittedly has like an 80 mile commute each day but she is saving like $8000-9000 a year in fuel costs. The Leaf has saved her a bundle.

The average person would use zero petrol during the week. That is thousands and thousands saved every year.

Dacia Duster is the most jalop car in the world. It's a dirt cheap, basic 4x4 you can hose down like a dog. You can get one without A/C and even a radio. But it's a practical and reliable car.

I drive a Clio, it was really cheap and the reliability is insanely good. Tiny bit cheap in some place, the seats are a bit flat and the engine struggles a bit at highway speed with the gearing. That's just the tighter emission standards over here, need to keep the road tax down.
