Yeah, this guy was brought in to basically run everything but the NE Corridor into the ground as an excuse to kill it off. Decisions are actively being made that are making all the long-haul routes less sustainable and less desirable to riders (and potential riders), so I imagine we’ll see a few more ‘deals’ like this…

It kills me to think of how much railway was ripped out of our country because of the oil & gas lobby. I imagine Amtrak makes a lot of its money off people who don’t do airplanes. It’s certainly not competitive.

I rode on Amtrak sleeper cars throughout the 90s and the first decade of this millennium and had a blast. The food was plentiful (and decent), the room was clean and comfy and the scenery was spectacular. 

I don’t have any idea what gave you the impression he wasn’t.

“United Constitutional Patriots” It’s like they just mashed all the “murica” words they could think together and called it a day. More fucking senile old white men, and young bucks that just want to “know what it feels like to kill someone” God help us all.

I don’t know what Loughlin’s upbringing was like, but I knew a lot of people at the private college I went to who pretty much believed that rules didn’t apply to them. In fairness, they had pretty much never experienced a negative consequence for their actions in their lives, so it wasn’t an entirely unreasonable…

Un-pardonable state charges can't come soon enough. 

This is good, but I worry about a legal system where we pick up these guys on unrelated charges but let their violent far-right militias continue. Getting the ones who are felons on weapons charges doesn’t really address the fundamental problem, but skirts around it.

Arrest the lot of them. Also, good on the ACLU for not pulling any punches with their description.

It’s not just Biden, but really any of the Clinton-type centrists. That’s part of why I argue that these people will flip when they see the direction the wind is blowing. You certainly won’t see them leading, but they’ll follow alright.

On one hand, it’s a good sign to see him doing this, because it shows that he recognizes the shift, and moreover that the Democratic party as a whole has shifted.

You can’t fault Biden for taking advantage of his supporters’ short-term memory.
