Owens is a 29 year old college dropout (from URI, of all places). A half dozen years ago she was a secretary at a financial firm. As recently as three or years ago she was firmly anti-GOP and anti-Trump. She’s grifting as fast as she can. She knows fuck-all about political and racial history. And yet here she is

You rode it on the wrong coast. I’ve opted for a train down from Orange County to San Diego (once from the OC up to Santa Barbara) for press events. It’s about 30 bucks for a biz class seat, which usually means a free drink and some grub. The view out the window is the ocean, for the most part, and it’s a wonderful

British Rail hasn’t existed in 20 years.

Exactly. In my case, that was too good of an option to pass up.

Replying to myself to add this little tid-bit.

The Superliner Roomettes, had I gotten one, would have increased the cost to about $450 if I recall correctly. That’s the same cost as the flight, plus a better schedule (in my case) and a better place to sleep.

I recently took Amtrak for the first time returning home from central IL to east TX. It’s an 11-12 hour drive, a 4-6 hour flight with a connection (or a considerably larger ask for a friend on the other end to come pick me up in DFW), and a ~17-hour train ride. The train actually takes me right to the small town I

German trains are amazing. Can’t wait to taste the Shinkansen this summer.

When I lived in D.C. I took the Northeast Regional to the Gawker (RIP) mothership once a month or so. It was mostly fine and good! It’s the rest of it that’s the problem.

Let us know if you come up with one.

I actually used to really enjoy Amtrak along the Northeast Regional line (DC <-> Philly <-> NYC), because the stations are all in the heart of the city, making actual travel time comparable if not faster than getting to-and-from airports and flying.

I am also a frequent NYC-DC train rider and I LOVE IT.

it’s already pointed out here, but i absolutely love using the train for DC-NYC. Acela or regional. It’s more comfortable and, all things considered, even the regional takes just about as much time as a flight when you consider you’re landing at MSG and not LGA.

As an official representative from the Brotherhood of Insufferable Pedants, I would like to invite you to our Tuesday meeting.

it would seem that AWD will soon become a federally mandated feature

The whole series is worth watching: how the corporatists took over the democratic party and led us down the path that brought us here.

You hit the nail on the head. To them, losing with moderates is way better than winning with progressives because the *business model* is what they’re protecting. Whether you live or die or live in squalor is immaterial to THEIR MONEY RIVER CONTINUING.

We can’t ignore it anymore.  They are fucking corrupt.   They need to be removed from office.   They are the enemy of the people just like Republicans.

It is funny how tough the Dems manage to get when it’s folks who are (ostensibly) on the same side - meanwhile, if any Republican needs someone to shit on, there’s usually a gutless Establishment Dem around who’ll gladly lay on the floor.

Democrats would rather lose elections than move to the left.    Anyone saying leftist voters should support Centrists can fuck off since they are doing stuff like this.

I’m buying it. It’s the DCCC. Remember their motto: Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory.
