fyi i love high on fire, this record is dope when matt pike isn't on his weird new singsongy cadence. ballou's production is less of a maelstrom this time, and he really gets some neckbreaking, thick tones out of the rhythm section.

raaaarrarararargh (toothless gnashing) - RIFF - drum fill like a hundred corpses pounding on their coffins - SOLO
woof
you took off your gloves to cancel it, didn't you … didn't you, you son of a bitch?
yeah i love that he thinks that was the takeaway here
have you read the thomas harris books? red dragon in particular is full of that hallucinatory "his shadow, suspended on dust" prose and plenty of rich imagery :)
end of chapter: "Oh no all my potatoes got sucked out the airlock! And my suit has a leak! Looks like I'm FUBAR!"
i was tremendously let down by clive barker's 'the scarlet gospels' - cronenberg's 'consumed' fared better. right now i'm working through a stack of library books, including the anders brevik book, sarah waters's 'the little stranger,' 'annihilation,' some le carre, 'a handful of dust,' and 'the werewolf of paris.'
amazing that you'd think "let's put sabbath on the soundtrack" and THAT song is where you end up
"There’s really not much to say about Dermot Mulroney" lol
everyone's comparing this to fulci and it's like jeez guys I'LL SEE IT OKAY
i'm into the record as a whole, for sure. the riffs are HUUUUUGE
see also: "It's really silly and really stupid."
i love the backing vocalists on some of these tracks, but i can't really get with the main dude. he's got sort of an anthony kiedis thing happening sometimes : /
wait, where's the vish on this one? i've been ROBBED!!!
you were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off
vishnevetsky no…this was my #1 most anticipated joint! peter weller! dolph! tony jaa! perlman!
Guilty Peaks
bayonetta! devil may cry?
hm. i'm intrigued, but the "walk from one boss to the next" interstitial stuff sounds real dry, and frankly, a bit like extraneous noise. i've heard it doesn't have the weight that shadow of the colossus's travel stuff does :-/
