Spinnin' Teddy Pendergrass vinyl as my J burns

Don't forget Agalloch's Faustian Echoes EP. One long song, so I've only heard it through once, but it's pretty cool. Gotten me excited to see them at the end of the month, at least.

Saw them at Scion and the bass was absolutely mind-melting. Hell of a vocalist, obviously.

I can't get into the new Gojira. Rote chug-chug SCRAPE chug SQUEAL riffs, rinse and repeat. "Mouth of Kala" and "The Gift of Guilt" are alright, but after the last two albums they seem on autopilot.

The new Baroness stuff sounds a lot like post-Vheissu Thrice to me. I can't decide if I like any of it. It's pleasant enough, I guess.

Hahaha shut the fuck up

Hopefully this is less half-assed "raw" recordings and more first album DD.

Son they're acting

NYU.

Yes. With this line, "In our iPad-cluttered 2012, perhaps analog dedication and AutoTune-free vocal chops are a kind of rebellion, but probably not; they’re just more colors in the crayon box, and not necessarily bright ones," I think this review undercuts the importance of a good meaty production.

I like the snare.

My biggest gripe with Martin is his uneven prose. He'll pull out some really vivid scene-setting and then settle into relatively blunt, obvious dialogue scenes. I've read critiques of his world-building but the scope and weight of Westeros is so tangible; it's like a rich soup of real-world history and fantastical

Can't read all this right now. Has anyone mentioned In My Skin? The sheer apathy with which the protagonist carves herself up really horrified me; granted, it hit rather close to home.

Scariest thing about Opera is that ending; it could've been up there with Deep Red and Tenebre if it weren't for that grisly, septic-tank-rupture of an ending.

@avclub-ef18dfd8bff9f124da2b16c9d790fdc1:disqus has a solid theory above.
