The show's been limping for a LOOOONG time now and this season has done a LOT of rehashing of old material. That said, I didn't think last night's episode was particularly bad. There have been a couple this season that were flat out awful, but not this one.

Don't get too exited. While it's really fun watching Tatiana Maslany play all those different parts, the plot is pure shit. I don't regret watching it, but I'll never do it again.

"but True Detective strikes me as a show so derivative of shows that have gone before"

You're fucking delusional. EVERYTHING in this show has been done before a million fucking times before. EVERYTHING. There's fucking dialogue straight from fucking 'Heat', not to mention the baby in the microwave. This show has done NOTHING new or unique. Not one goddamn thing. All it's got going for it is style

Are you serious? The story is cliched drivel. It's an awful story. The acting and directing are what's carrying the show and distracting most people from the godawful plot.

"and it’s currently enjoying its most popular season ever"

I didn't, either. I would've cared about seven years ago.

Did Stephen Chow do anything good after 'Kung Fu Hustle'? I've only seen the 'E.T.' rip-off he did and it was awful.

I think it's mainly due to laziness and a lack of talent.

Well, I for one am mostly with you. I really like 'Royal Tenenbaums' and 'Rushmore'. I thought 'Bottle Rocket' was OK. I cut it some slack for being his first movie. 'Life Aquatic' has some good moments in it, but it's a mess of a movie. It's all over the place. I dislike it as a whole, though there are scenes

Don't forget lots of Futura font.

His older movies actually had plots and points to them, but his latter movies are just style over substance. They're pretty fluff and nothing more.

"No matter: Eight features in, and showing no sign of slowing down"

A tad disappointed? The movie stunk. You can admit you disliked it. You won't lose your street cred.

I don't care much for Terry Gilliam's movies, but I've got a lot of respect for the guy. He's a true artist that does his own thing and I admire that. I don't respect Zack Snyder. I don't respect Zack Snyder at all.

I think the issue is that most people think the world didn't exist until they were born.

Thanks for the info. Quentin Tarantino has never had an original idea in his life and I wondered where that one came from.

I like it, too, though I do agree it has it's problems. I get some of people's negative criticisms, but I don't get the level of those criticisms. People rip this movie a new one and I don't understand why. It's not THAT bad.

Tarantino is a thieving piece of shit and I hate that ugly, arrogant moon-faced bastard with a passion. That said, I do like his segment in this movie.

The kids are really funny, too. I love that segment. I was pretty surprised to learn how hated this movie is when I looked it up on the internet one day. Yeah, it's uneven, but what anthology isn't? I'm not a fan of either Rodriguez or Tarantino, but the Rodriguez segment kills me every time and the way
