I agree.  'Arrested Development' was a rare example of a show ending at the perfect time.  It didn't get cancelled too early and it didn't overstay it's welcome like so many other shows. Just watch the last two seasons of 'Community' to see what happens when writers try too hard to pander to their fans.  Some things are great in small doses or just as a one-off joke, but they can get run into the ground quickly when overdone.

Pierce wasn't all that racist in the beginning.  He was much more of a wise old man character that was there to dispense advice to Jeff.  It wasn't until later that he morphed into a racist Grandpa Simpson character that was there to be the butt of stupid jokes.
