Even that would be optimistic. 5-10 years would be the timespan to bring just a new electrode material of the existing Li-ion technology into the production process. Huge investments to change the production lines. For Li-air, we have to build a completely new device. That will take much longer. Many had already given

The question about ambient air is a very valid one. As of now, Li-O2 only works in the lab under idealised conditions. Should upscaling in the lab work, the O2 supply is the next important question. According to our current understanding, the protection of the system from direct air contact and the delivery of
