He’s also not-white. Don’t forget that.

You can almost hear recognitions brain melt here.

What I was specifically referring to with ‘good faith’ was the people who are simply starting the ‘argument’ simply to get others started and do the rest of the work. They’re the people who are only doing it to cause trouble and not for an actual cause. With the left, it’s usually either whenever someone gets an

How she spoke on those shows matches the general area she grew up in though. I have family from NYC that naturally spoke like that and even had the same outgoing mannerisms. Even her character in Nora From Queen’s matches some of the behavior of people I know. At the very least, it’s a learned accent based on

There are definitely people who simply focus on causing conflict in Social Media. You can usually trace nonsense issues back to people who aren’t arguing in good faith but managed to get people who usually are, riled up. It’s Trolling 101 and a large part of the ‘Cancel Culture’ concept. If the left/progressives are

Wait’ll they find out that she started out as a rapper!

I’m not cosigning all Trevor Noah’s opinions when I say I like a lot of what he’s said at times—it somehow feels necessary to declare this before I begin—and as an immigrant, I imagine a lot of it comes from his not being American, that has given the experience to see American exceptionalism and debating style that is

Quitting Twitter is always the right choice. But that aside... It’d probably be wiser for her or other celebrities who have their turn at being called out not to address it or defend themselves and let the social media critics have their say. It almost always blows over or burns out and you just look like you’re

Then this makes me ask, which is worse (for lack of a better word)? A comedian using various accents to make jokes, sometimes about the cultures those accents are from. Or a comedian who has an accent or adopts an accent for effect. Both are using it as part of their performance, but both don’t necessarily have any

I feel a bit strange about this. Is it cultural appropriation to participate in a mode of speech that has more or less entered the mainstream, an outcome that in my heart of hearts seems like, basically, a Good Thing?

Well, Awkwafina isnt actively “doing” anything, she is just talking how she has learned to talk over the course of her life. She isnt imitating anything, thats...just how she talks. She is just a new target for people to be angry at.

Her normal speaking voice and inflections people perceive as “too black” and being appropriation. Its no different than when people comment that a black person “talks white.” Awkwafina isnt “appropriating” anything... People claiming she is are the ones who are racist; Awkwafina is Asian, she is only allowed to talk

I definitely consider myself liberal/left, but I often find myself pretty disgusted by how much discourse on the left sounds oddly like it’s promoting separation of the races.

If I encounter a stubborn jar, my go to is a rubber strap wrench. It’s like the duct tape handle, but much much stronger.

This is good as general advice, but “a cable is a cable” is not true. You can buy cheap and dangerous cables from overseas that could burn your house down or ruin your device. You don’t have to buy Apple, but you should buy quality cables and chargers from known, reputable manufacturers.

Counterpoint, don’t watch LH/Gawker vids...?

Don't buy Apple.

Jordan, as you can see from these comments that slideshows and videos are the lowest of forms of communication on the internet, especially for simple topics like this.  Please pass these sentiments along to your editor in chief, or whomever decides the formats.  I have not watched one video or slideshow on

Thanks. If video is the format of the future for Gawker, I’m out. I already skip the slideshows unless I’m on mobile (so that I don’t have to see a slideshow). If they want to load pages faster, reduce the advertisement overhead.

For standard grocery store pickles, I like Claussen. And the brine is delicious!
