Exactly. And they totally ignore the fact that the Tea Party was astroturfed by the Kochs.

And NOVA, and Call the Midwife, and Great British Baking Show, and Frontline, and Morning Edition, and All Things Considered, and all PBS children’s programming. And everything else you hold dear.
Families in poverty and single-parent families making up to 200k will see either minimal ($120) tax cuts or possibly tax INCREASES under Trump’s proposed tax plan.
It helps! I contacted my rep this weekend, and yesterday he announced he will not attend. They need to know they have the support of the people in their district!
No, they really don’t. If they can make a content-neutral claim as to why they are cancelling his lecture (e.g. security would cost too much or it would interrupt class time) they can, but it would also be a PR nightmare and they would probably still get sued- they would just have a defense against the suit. If they…
The College Republicans are the ones inviting him to all of these campuses, and they specifically want to hold his talks on campus for this exact reason. The university has very litter power to stop the talk, and if any university does try to cite security issues as a reason to cancel the talk/move it off campus Milo…
I don’t m kw the facts of this specific case but I have not heard of a college/university inviting him directly. It is always a College Republicans/Students for Liberty/etc. kind of group.
If you had the sense it was a little off right after you published your first comment you could’ve investigated.
And yet you kept going, even after I explained my expertise and knowledge on the subject.
More info on universities’s roles as limited public fora here: http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/campus-speakers/
Well, I work at a university, have a master’s degree in running a university, have taken higher ed law classes, and sat in on a meeting with our university legal counsel about just this issue six weeks ago. So yes, I can confidently say that the university must respect EVERYONE’S right to free speech, not just their…
You would have to ask the university. Stuff like that is availabkenthrough a FOIA request. I would guess this is either unpaid (since the college GOP would probably not have enough money), or they gave him a small stipend for travel.
No, not really. Once a registered student group has invited him to campus, university administration has almost no recourse to stop the speech. To do so would be a violation of the 1st amendment since public universities are state actors.
It’s not universities that invite him. It’s usually a student group (like the College Republicans). A public school cannot turn Milo away without violating the 1st amendment. The only reason they can deny him is if they can say that his speech would cause a security threat, or if the expense of hiring extra security…
Blink-182 has a new single on the radio right now. The sad thing is, I was immediately able to identify it as a new Blink-182 song before I even knew its name or heard them announce the artist. And then I was like WHAT YEAR ARE WE LIVING IN???
as long as the more TERF-RadFem section of the Dem base keeps their mouths shut this time and doesn’t torpedo the whole thing
I can’t tell if your last line is sarcastic, because who knows what is serious these days?, but I am kind of sick of my fellow white Jews joking about how we aren’t really white. Just because neo-Nazis think we’re not white, doesn’t mean we don’t benefit a whole helluva lot from our white privilege.
Again, this only works if you are approved for OT. If my current position were to switch to hourly (as it was due to under the Obama DOL FLSA change), I would never be approved for OT. Maybe one weekend a year.
I am fairly skilled (master’s degree), but also a government employee, so LOL at the thought of OT.
If you’re paid hourly, there are overtime opportunities.
