I am busty (I buy 2X size and alter where I can) so a lot of the thrift shops can't supply everything for me. But I'd rather go slow and buy an ugly looking mom dress from the 90s that is really big but fits my boobs and butt and then I'll hem it and take it in where I need to.

Yeah, the prices at fast fashion stores make me balk, and I will spend $200 for a good quality dress. Fast fashion is overpriced for how terrible the quality of construction and materials are. And you don't even have to thrift shop for reasonably priced mid-tier stuff, you just have an attentive sale shopper.

Man, I would freaking LOVE to be able to spend a little more money on pieces that are higher quality and buy fewer of those pieces. But the problem is that cost =/= quality. It's extremely frustrating to order a $25 t-shirt from Everlane and see that it's just as sheer as the $10 one from Target.

No. My theory is this, based on my own experience: I can't count on my weight to stay the same from one year to the next. It goes up and down and when shit isn't fitting properly I'm not going to buy a nice investment piece. I'm going to buy a bunch of cheap garbage tshirts and maybe jeans if they're on sale.
