I’m no longer surprised by people in the rural area where I now live having no concept of public transportation. They have some tv-inspired version where the bus/train picks you up right where you live, when you want, and drops you at the door of your destination minutes later.

Seriously. I paid actual dollars for Star Trek V in the theater and was stupid enough to do the same for Nemesis years later. Implying there’s some mythical superior quality to the older stuff just because it’s older does a disservice.

Agreed. I grew up in a poor family that would give you the literal last meal or shirt off their backs if you needed it more than them. I hate this idea that those of us in poor communities are all unrefined thugs simply because we don’t have material possessions or urbane white culture.
