Lucas was working on a sequel trilogy before the Disney sale...and from what info has leaked, it sounded a lot better than what Disney has been making. Then again, it probably still would have felt ‘tacked on’ even with Lucas in charge. The story finished with the death of Vader.

>I would happily see a reworking of the Prequels into something watchable

I think it’s true that Lucas was more involved on-set with Jedi (he is rumoured to have directed parts of the movie himself), and probably found it easier to bend Marquand to his will. But Lucas was definitely more hands-off in other areas (it’s the only Star Wars movie Lucas wrote less than 50% of the screenplay for,

Yes, this is what many people miss. All the good stuff is from Lucas, but it’s enhanced by collaborating with great talent.

Excellent comment. It’s sickening how far people will go to try to remove all credit for Star Wars from Lucas.

There are plenty of explanations:

The underlying reason for this is the insidious groupthink that has taken over fandom.

When making The Phantom Menace, the visual effects guys said that it was going to be much easier to animate Jar Jar’s entire body and head than to fit a CG head onto live footage of the actor in a suit (and the cost difference was negligible). I assume the same was true here: much easier to animate the whole thing

I see my comment went completely over your head. The Star Wars films had significantly less green screen than you think. Almost every scene (reshoots being notable exceptions) was shot on a set or location, with green screen being used mainly for set extensions. The actors were rarely acting against green, and digital

And yet directors like George Lucas are criticised for overuse of CG when their movies have dozens of sets, tons of location shooting, and tons of miniatures (e.g. Revenge of the Sith).

PR stunt, just as with The Force Awakens (and the reverse of what they did with The Phantom Menace, which had a HUGE amount of practical effects - far more than The Force Awakens, FWIW). They know a certain group of viewers fetishise practical effects over CG, so they are pandering. There will be no difference in the

It *was* originally a young Greedo, buy Lucas changed it, probably because it was a bit ‘on the nose’.

Han was definitely full of crap (either about Wookiees in general or Chewie in particular). Chewie is a big softie, as demonstrated many times in the movies.

That would be a much better scene, much more in line with Chewie’s established character (which your little gif represents better than most of his work in Episode VII)! If I ever get my time machine working I will have you sent back a few years to rewrite the Episode VII script into something that actually feels like

Where in 1977 could you get hold of an anamorphic widescreen, HD home video copy of Star Wars?

Oh, I can’t have an opinion because if it differs from yours I must have no clue? I can guarantee I know a lot more about Star Wars than you do, and my opinion on it is a valid as anyone’s (an more informed than most’s).

I don’t think you know how Empire was written. Have you read Brackett’s script? It bears no resemblance to the final movie whatsoever.

Well, according to rumours, Lucas directed large chunks of Jedi.
