You said Kotaku is still a blog. Kotaku themselves said they are a "news organization"

[kotaku.com]" I do not believe that is our role as a NEWS ORGANIZATION to join any protest. "

But there not a blog! There a "news organisation"

This will never end, but I must say, donations and ad revenue are hardly the same thing

    k

Its the lead story on the front page because it is controversial, will generate page views and also lots of comments, all of which equal AD REVENUE

I respectfully disagree that Kotaku is a news organization

Because it is pretty much the truth, a few of the gawker sites have put up excuses about why they aren't blacking out, when it should be quite obvious that the only reason they aren't is the lost ad revenue

They have been half-assed in their stance, that's what I'm trying to say. They have run multiple articles condemning the bill yet when it is time to take action and blackout, like many other news sites have done, they have not fearing lost ad revenue.

That's not what I mean, they can't say there a "news organisation" yet post ridiculous stuff like that.

Thing is, who actually reads those splash screens? Wikipedia blocked there whole website and still many people are going on twitter proclaiming horror at wikipedia getting shut down or wanting more money.

It is cheapened because its the symbolism of blacking out a site, or in google's case, making changes to a site to show solidarity with the cause your supporting. Anyway there is only one reason they have not done anything: Ad Revenue

"Join the protest", Blackbar = support for protest

Thing is, Kotaku have run many many articles condemning the two bill so they are taking a side; yet they won't blackout like many other "news organisations" have (gamepolitics, destructoid, rps)

    "news organization"

Preaching to the choir? Wikipedia is one of the most visited websites in the world, A lot of people do not know about SOPA and seeing Wikipedia blacked out would come as quite a shock to them, Preaching to the choir? WTF??

A homeless man died today OMG HE WAS NEAR AN ARCADE

Then why are they calling themselves a news site in this article?

They have always said they are a blog, this is the first time I have seen them call themselves a news site. I hardly think a homeless man dying who just happens to be near a arcade is gaming news anyway.
