I know I’m going to catch hell for this but... wow, these really have NOT held up. And that’s coming from someone who likes plenty of cars with divisive looks.

I think it’s very telling that there used to be a lot of these on the roads until about 2010-ish, when their numbers really thinned. I see plenty of 20-year old cars still running about just fine, but these are a rare sight nowadays.
It’s wholly unremarkable and offers little performance gain over the base 1.8T. The best you could say about them is that it doesn’t suffer from the extreme oil sludging that the 1.8T was known for, though it does have its own set of problems. They have rubber timing belts. I don’t remember what the rollers are made…
Almost anything that runs these days is worth $5k but I’m still voting ND. Having previously owned a 4-Motion GLX Passat of this generation, I can assure you that repairs are both frequent and expensive, and will quickly outpace the actual value of the car.
Because I’m seeing the same tall vertical slab of a front end that nearly all American trucks have. To me, this looks incredibly similar to a Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra. Tastes are subjective, and I just prefer the previous design. Also, as an American, it’s not like I see a ton of new Mitsubishi product on the…
This occupies a weird space in no man’s land. It might be rare but is it desirable? I think the answer is no, not really — especially not at $13k.
It’s fine, I think?. This one could depend on how badly someone wants a Viper and how much work they’re willing to put into finding one. Personally, I’d be extremely reluctant to buy a Viper off Craigslist, but to each their own. Provided it doesn’t have a salvage title or significant accident history, and isn’t a…
Agreed. Within 30 minutes of using the Backbone, I realized it didn’t solve anything for me and that using a tablet + Dual Sense for remote play was the better option anyway. I sent it back and probably won’t try another cradle-type controller designed exclusively for phones.
I applaud Sony for trying to do something meaningful with its Remote Play service, but this ain’t it. I recently ordered a Backbone 1 PS Edition for Android while they were on sale and sent it back after a few days, but that experience made me realize that what I’d actually be in the market for is a purpose-built…
Exactly. At best, they only work as a finishing polish after wet sanding with progressively finer grit sandpaper. I’ve had good results with Meguiar’s Plastx as a finisher, but don’t even bother buying the kit with the useless drill attachment. You can run a drill through every battery pack you own and it won’t…
Didn’t clean anything and gave me cancer. 1 star, but YRMV.
You know, that’s the kind of optimism we should approach life with and I can’t disagree! (Still not buying it though)
I love it. Weird ass cars like this are my love language. But now that I’ve had a moment to collect myself, this is probably an $8k car at best if I’m being generous. And that’s coming from someone who also finds the Europa to be uniquely sexy.
The V60, Polestar 2, and Mazda3 were already nominated and are indeed very, very cool. While probably not as cool, I am going to roll with the Hyundai Santa Cruz. It offers just as much “truck” as most people need 90% of the time, in a more livable package, and without the lifestyle tax of absurdly priced mid and…
Mazda dealers (at least in North America) being woefully incompetent at diagnosing or fixing any condition instead of throwing up their hands and saying “welp...let’s just replace the whole engine and see if that fixes it” contributed to that perfect storm as well. A lot of the remanufactured engines were bad, most of…
Personally, I would choose an Evora over the Elise if daily driving falls anywhere within the “sort of” category. Although the Elise is razor sharp at handling, they are absolutely tortuous to be in for more than 30 minutes, especially if you’re on the taller side. Service can also be a pain depending on location.
While…
For something more ordinary and further downstream from aspirational, I’ll nominate the Fiat derived Dodge Dart. It didn’t have a storied reputation to live up to, but people were genuinely excited about Dodge getting back in the small car game with something that had the potential to be good. It really disappointed…
