I’ve had a couple friends in Canada who have already got the letter from Yamaha. They seem to be working well with owners, but the 16 hours to re and re the assembly is a bit sketchy.

I’m rather surprised that Yamaha didn’t choose to put a “cassette” transmission in, especially given the track focus of the R1. I know at least the newer ZX10R has this type, which can be changed in under an hour.

I’m sure the tires were a factor in the crash. Ugly rims usually have crappy (cheap) tires.

I can agree with the WRX/STI assessment. I am one of those people who has a ‘16 STI with a 400-600 payment.
