I enjoy the fact that Semi-Charmed Life was practically ubiquitous in 90s romantic comedies because it sounds all light-hearted and poppy, but it's about the good times had banging some girl and snorting gack.

The thing is, you can do humor that's about your experiences as a {middle aged white guy/young black female/pakistani immigrant} if it's done well and the jokes are made relateable to a wider audience. Chappelle was probably the master of this, Louis CK does a decent job.

Nasim Pedrad playing Aziz Ansari actually sounds pretty funny. Likewise Keenan Thompson playing Whoopi Goldberg seems funnier than having a woman play Whoopi.

I feel about Maria Bamford the way I do about Mitch Hedberg. Some decent material, but the weird, affected stage personality keeps me from really enjoying the act.
