I love Portillos, but even though it’s actually expanded into my metro area, I have never been outside of Chicago. We’re still too damn excited about it in Minnesota, so the lines are godawful at all hours. I can’t imagine how bad it’s gonna be tomorrow.

A beer of the week that will be readily available at my liquor store? And in a style I’m into right now? I’m very excited.

I don’t really know what the blogosphere was saying about this movie a long time ago, but I know when I started seeing promo for it I thought it was going to be bad because it was before the DCEU had shown any ability to allow for a shred of nuance in its movies and when they appeared to be optioning anything even

I only remember Jake Sully because at one point during the film, he says his name to one of the blue people, out loud. Then, 5 seconds later, the blue person says it back but unintelligibly.

I assume you mean “if a movie with comparable critical acclaim and box office returns as a directorial debut with a white director”, since Get Out with a white director would have pre-empted the film with a notice that not all white people are the bad guys and how if you think about it, he’s honestly a pretty good guy

This has been a very inspiring week for me; these articles have done a lot to demystify French cooking to me, and the end results are as delicious-looking as always! Bourdain’s cookbook is now sitting at the top of my list of projects and I’ll be sure to try some of these recipes out soon.

Yeah, it’s metal with a porcelain shell; it’s super strange looking. Every time I drive past it I think about how rewarding it would be to clean since porcelain gets so shiny, but since it’s on the historic places register you probably can’t power wash it.

In Minneapolis, there’s a similar White Castle building in an otherwise-residential neighbourhood that’s currently an antique shop.

Great article! I like that you had several brewers weigh in; this seems like the sort of thing that is a major factor in brewery success, but I’ve never heard about recipe tweaking before now.

For someone who loves frequenting Takeout and trying posted recipes, I could very easily see myself eating the same lunch every day, if the nutrition was good and the cost/effort were minimal.

I’ve never had a white whiskey, but I do love irony... this might be my way in.

If I had to guess “receptive to any kind of Netflix original content” is probably a good 20-30% of the meter. So if you watched Wild Wild Country, you’ll LOVE The Ranch.

I worked at an extremely Americanized Chinese restaurant right after graduating college; between living expenses and my newly payable loans, I didn’t have much spare to buy food, so I worked out a deal with the manager that if we stayed under the waste budget each week and I worked every closing shift I could bring

Thank god! I was afraid we’d get a Marvel origin story movie that didn’t involve a final showdown with a villain who has the same powers as the main character but evil.

I imagine the gist of this realization for Depp was “Fine, we’ll jointly admit that I abused her, my career is bulletproof” -> “My financial manager is ruining me by not stopping me from buying stupid shit all the time” -> “Wait, turns out being abusive and bad with money means I don’t have money, can I call

Back in high school, I read a lot of novels, and when it came time to take the AP test for literature I decided to write one of my essays about Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. While writing it, I realized I couldn’t remember the protagonist’s name, panicked, and spent a great deal of time rewriting sentences to avoid

Georgia is flexing on Northern states by releasing a beer that reminds me I can’t have fun outdoors! Not the beer-drinking kind of fun, anyway.

There’s a stronger likeness there than I would have expected. Not sure I have the heart to actually learn more about FIFA, an organization that is somehow more depressing than the OTHER monolithic sports organizations.

Happy birthday, Kate! The leading gif here is a powerful reminder that I still have never tried Malort. I’m in the Midwest, so it’s only a matter of time until I end up at a bar for Illinois transplants and make the worst mistake of my life.

This isn’t a dish that’s likely to find much traction in my household, but I’ve never read a better paean in my life. Hope Paul’s doing okay.
