I’d throw my vote toward an Xbox 360 controller. Cheaper than an Xbox One controller, still readily available, works well with RetroPie.

It might be worth it to investigate the drain trap and maybe even replace it. Entire plastic drain trap kits are under $20 at most home repair stores.
