I’d throw my vote toward an Xbox 360 controller. Cheaper than an Xbox One controller, still readily available, works well with RetroPie.

Yeah, this is cool-looking, but seems unnecessary. A semi-autonomous tractor that could allow for human operation on roadways but could go full Roomba on a field seems more practical and would face less hurdles for production.
