I like the art a lot more as the series goes on. I think Bryan Talbot, Jill Thompson, P. Craig Russell, Michael Zulli, and Marc Hempel (among others) nailed it. Not as into the earlier artists.

Without spoiling anything, I will say that the final issue of Sandman has always made me wonder if Morpheus is a Gaiman stand-in. Interesting to see that idea being spotted all the way at the beginning.
