I avoid having anything like a credit card in the same pocket as my phone, as phones can and WILL demagnetize the strip or any touch-cards like some offices use. Does this thing have any sort of shielding, or are people assuming because it hasn't happened to them (yet) that it's safe?

While it is a real scenario, I doubt it ranks as "very common" I only ever hear about people who can't bring their phones into work once every couple of years, and it's only online. I've yet to meet one person in real life where this is the case. I imagine it involves some sort of high-security job which suggests

how is the Google 2-step login a pain in the ass? Okay, I'll give you the initial set-up isn't easy, but once you've got that squared away, it's easy.

Yes there is. I looked at those options. One way or another there's a fee for the transaction. Either you pay, or they pay.

yeah, like the dictionary.com app allowed you to text definitions to people so it asked for SMS permissions, and people freaked out! My bank, USAA, had the option (option, mind you) to connect to facebook with the app so you can, I guess, talk about mortgage rates or something? People flipped out and DEMANDED the

but you also assumed (a) that an employer would dock someone rather than letting them use sick day/vacation days/personal days (if you're making 12.50 an hour those are usually in play) if they dock at all. (b) that it would take all day.

awesome, more fear mongering. Like there isn't enough hysteria in the marketplace.

that's an interesting set of assumptions.

No, I'm not nuts, I just don't read the newspaper. It appears I can just make comments on lifehacker and get the most relevent info anyway :P

so you want me to tell you the most important thing to me? Should I also tell you where it is and how much it runs on the black market? :P

Honestly the high price of the app and the stealing of features to put them behind a pay wall was my bigger issue. It's just horribly unethical and I don't want to encourage the practice. I'm fine if a dev wants a pay version and puts in more time and features for it. But to have unlimited access to those features

from what I understand, you don't have to inform anyone in advance that you're contesting your ticket. You automatically get your court date, so you can either pay the ticket or show up to court, and nobody knows whether you're going to do one or the other until you do it. Perhaps that's why Chicago cops don't show up

I know in the Chicago area, getting out of a speeding ticket is pretty damn easy. The officer has to show up to court date. Most don't, they're too busy. So if you show up to court, and the officer doesn't, you're automatically cleared.

fair enough. Though being able to color code my tweeps makes reading a lot simpler.

uh, no, it says "I find jobs really fast, and given the instability of the economy, I can bounce back easily" You would have to be living under a rock to think otherwise.

Well, I've never, ever been fired. And yeah, Deverbative has a point. Demarcmj have you been living under a rock? Most of the people I know have been laid off at least once in the past 2-3 years. I was laid off twice in 2008 because both companies had to downsize because of the economy. I have glowing

I'd rather just eat food that has Vitamin D in it.

or you could temp. Which is how I've gotten almost every single full time job in the past 10 years.
