I'm in a similar situation, rocking an overclocked Intel Q6600 with 8GB DDR2 that's held up rather nicely with just an upgrade to a Radeon HD 7870. I've been playing Shadow of Mordor at near 60 FPS on reasonably high settings.
I think this could be really compelling as an app on a tablet that allows matchmaking on local WiFi. Playing mind games against a faceless opponent is one thing; playing mind games with your friend sitting across the table is something else!

I love the Brave New World expansion. It adds a whole lot of depth to the late game that was missing in the vanilla release. As for the DLC, well, having some extra civilizations to stomp on... er, play against... is always nice.

I watched someone on the subway yesterday trying to play it on her phone. I don't know which phone it was, but it was running at a mind-numbingly slow 5 fps or so (if that many).
