Later on in the hyperlinked article, that woman says about the show, “I am happy with the experience.” So maybe it wasn’t literally hell?

Wait are you telling me that some YouTube personality I have never even heard of had to share a bathroom with other people for the few hours it took to do her Ellen show appearance. The horror.

I’m excited for this, Middleditch and all. If they recast that voice, I don't think anyone would give a shit.

Look the question isn’t “why doesn’t AV Club cover The Simpsons anymore?” because that’s fucking obvious. The real question is “why does AV Club still cover Saturday Night Live?”

Here is the thing with HBO Max.  There plan to same day release movies and the way they sprung it on creators kinda sucks.  That being said,  as far as content goes they are probably one of the best services out there right now.  So it’s a double edged sword with them.

I think he meant that they had the least amount of subscribers of the major streaming services (which at the time was true). He made this statement when WB decided to move a bunch of movies to HBO Max without consulting most of the co-producers / directors / cast who were going to lose out on some of the revenue

in the future i would highly recommend watching the show first!

I always thought it was odd he lived in that dream house, with a beautiful wife, a son who owns a factory and lobster for dinner.. Meanwhile I live in a single room over a bowling alley and under another bowling alley.

I have no idea what they’re talking about. There’s a running gag of a news anchor arguing with his field reporter over the characterization of Qanon followers that implies the anchor supports them. Otherwise, Qanon followers are unambiguously depicted as brainwashed and/or morons. There is no depiction or mention of

Its just insane and wholly not necessary anyone should make this much

I think the lowbrow movies that Scorsese loves is kind of the opposite of what he’s talking about when referring to contemporary blockbusters. For one, Mario Bava movies aren’t engineered to nearly the degree that an MCU movie is, where Kevin Feige will make entire chunks of the movie without the control of the

Oh, yeah, my point is not that Soul isn’t good, so much as the whole idea of these 20 movies from one studio, by virtue of their extreme technical skill and the time and money it takes to make them, being preferable to a passel of hundreds of movies (some very poor!) which includes some really terrific, seminal movies

I would also argue the point that WandaVision is remotely interesting but that’s a different contentious comment thread!

I dunno, I think these things can all be problems at once, and there’s something just as much forest-for-the-trees about saying “oh, it’s all because of Disney.” Do other companies not aspire to what

Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Thor, Steve Rogers, Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent are all white dudes. Scorsese’s World Cinema Project promotes the work of plenty of people who are not white dudes. And Scorsese’s filmography is a lot broader than movies about “white dudes in New York”.

He does make plenty of films like the ones you describe, but he makes plenty of others as well. Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Kundun, Silence, and the Age of Innocence spring to mind.

I don’t think Scorsese is remotely saying that methods of distributing movies shouldn’t exist. He has set up movies at Netflix, and then Apple, because those are companies that were willing to give him money to make his movie. And rather than seeing this as hypocritical, I just think he’s pretty aware of how you need

It’s not an odd position considering that there’s no middle ground anymore when it comes to that which is the point he’s making. It’s either small indie films or the studio backed blockbusters meaning that there are a bunch of stories that might not be able to be done on a indie film budget but aren’t enough of a

I don’t want to put words in Scorcese’s mouth, and I certainly don’t want to put down your honest and forthright opinions. But I’m suspecting that your interpretation of his words doesn’t line up with what he’s intending.

Yeah, the “cultural vegetables” mentality is strange for the reason your sister says. It’s even stranger when people are suspicious (for lack of a better word) of people who genuinely enjoy something seen as a kind of homework assignment.

What I really don’t understand about the “we must serialize so subscribers will binge!” approach to streaming content is that the towering successes and plumb prizes of the streaming world are all heavily episodic long-running network sitcoms.
