Oh dang. A perfect opportunity to ask Matt about the Epstein plane.

Those people may be goofy, but at least they didn’t actively miss the point of the art they’re appropriating.

Maybe the real Matrix is the friends we made along the way

The Liz Lemon eye roll is actually quite similar to this sketch in being mildly funny for a few seconds years ago, and never again.

A) This is a surprisingly late reply, so I don’t know what you’re doing with your time.

B) Plenty of incumbents who barely campaign still win, because the system favors incumbents. People who are used to things being one way have to be actively convinced to take a shot on a change. This isn’t the gotcha you think it

IIRC Lee actually is seen briefly training Tate; there’s snippets of her memory of it when she’s watching herself in the movie theater.

Isn’t that true of the Silverman bit too, though? I mean, she was playing a character and the joke was on the character, not black people. I’m not saying it was necessarily in good taste or well done (Tropic Thunder definitely did it with clearer satirical purpose and funnier material; so did Always Sunny), but it was

That’s the funny thing, even if it was an intentional jab at the injury, it would seem more like a confessional/knowing jab at himself, or at least that’s how I would read it personally. He was pretty apologetic about it when the story came out and according to Thurman it only did because HE went looking for the

Considering Beyonce’s history re: sweatshop labor, it’s also milder than it could have been.

I’m been thinking a lot about her delivery of the line “I’m aware of his work” when another kid (Wendell, also often voiced by her) asks if his planned science fiction program will include Ray Bradbury. She just sells that line. And yeah, that is my favorite episode actually.

This is such an underrated episode. One of the best in recent years, and a sign that they’ve still got just as much life in them as ever.

To be honest I’m not sure Airplane! has much of a structure beyond the one borrowed from Zero Hour!, either. And Airplane! is definitely better than Top Secret!, but I think in both cases it’s really the brilliant gags that make them worthwhile classics, more so than anything to do with the plot. Same with Kentucky

There actually is an emmy category, although I think instead of there being one winner every year they just nominate a bunch and then give to several among those. Most of the Simpsons cast has won over the years. (Not sure about Taylor, but all the main actors have won, though it took Shearer decades longer than the

FWIW, Hooks was replaced as Manjula by Tress MacNeille well before Hooks’ death (and I assume Manjula probably now hasn’t spoken for a while for different reasons...), and Doris was also eventually replaced by MacNeille. But yeah, it’s getting sad how a lot of the secondary characters are forced into retirement or no

The increased reliance on celebrities even for TV animation really bums me out. I’m too old to otherwise care about the Ducktales reboot, but seeing one of those promotional videos with Ben Schwartz and Danny Pudi and such talking about the show just made sad, even though I like those actors. They’re good actors, but

.”Fry “Mother Jones is a centrist publication? Okay. Sure. In DSA land. In the rest of the 99.5% of the country, it is considered a very liberal magazine”

Well, yeah, there’s the rub. It’s become a standard “liberal” publication when the person it’s named after was a radical leftist agitator. There’s possibly a place

For Val Kilmer comedy goodness, highly recommend Top Secret! by the Airplane! team.

“Nor did I say that. But he was not just “Random D.” First of all, he was already a recognizable populist voice in the vein of Elizabeth Warren.”

Lol, no not really. Sanders and Warren are nationally recognized and celebrated figures. Sanders excites people who aren’t always reliable voters, such that they might

His committee work was unexceptional. I’m not saying BAD, necessarily. But unexceptional. He was never notably different than your average Dem would have been. I’m not a big fan of Kamala Harris (whose record as AG was pretty conservative if not outright horrifying), but I would just note that she replaced Franken on

He was replaced with an average Democrat, which is basically all he was to begin with. Portraying him as some invaluable progressive firebrand is laughable. He wasn’t AOC; he wasn’t Omar or Sanders or Warren either. He never significantly moved the needle on any issue. He was a typical Democrat who voted with typical
