I mean, realistically, California already had a defacto moratorium as they haven’t executed anyone in 13 years, and has 740 people sitting there with the longest wait time in the country.

Yeah, there was remarkably little of this shit under Deal.
I’m not sure how they can judge with the jury would have done with something they didn’t know. The DA is obsessed.
My boyfriend is a HUGE Steven Avery supporter (he also has history with the criminal justice system so the only people he hates more than cops are DA’s), and we had the biggest fight when I said that I thought Avery deserves a new trial, but I was in no way certain he is innocent.
I think he’s probably guilty, but the prosecution bungled the case and forensic guy lied. That would be enough for a new trial to me. The prosecution dragged it’s feet for 6 years after he was granted one, the judge got tired of it, and forced them to resolve it.
My great aunt was 96 and a little out of it, and informed my mom that she was so excited that Bush resigned. My mom had to calmly explain that it was just a dream she had. She was so disappointed.
You can totally hear the “women....so emotional” in his head. Asshole.
Maryland’s top court just reinstated his conviction. 4-3 decision.
I had a really interesting conversation with a bunch of baby boomer women who were like “Does anybody really care if someone squeezed your shoulder or patted your butt 20 years ago?” You’d be surprised how many people, women included, want Me Too to just go away. Justin Fairfax’s continued survival proves that.
What I’ve always thought happened here was this. Jay was a low level drug dealer known the local cops. They told him either finger your friend or your life gets mighty difficult. Not like it never happened before.
Yeah, he was older and worked at the eyeglass place.
What’s depressing is that you were like, “Would the higher salary be worth it?”
Somehow I feel like this was about a group of African American friends you wouldn’t be saying that.
It’s so meta, I can’t even.
Meh....his blood alcohol was .08, ie the legal limit. It was only a DUI because he’s 19, and realistically, who doesn’t drink at 19. (And yes, I know some weirdo who sat in their room in college is going to come here and say they didn’t drink till they were 30).
Also, prosecutors don’t like to move forward with a case where they know their star witness will likely be eviscerated on cross examination.
Prosecutors really, really hate when people lie under oath. They could have gone ahead, and allowed the officer’s defense attorney make mincemeat of her credibility on the stand. Would that be better?
Nope, it’s 17 in NY. Fullstop.
A lot of them voted Democratic in 2018. I know everyone likes to snarf about AOC and Omar, but we got the house back on the back of suburban voters who voted for people like Max Rose and Sean Kasten.
At least growing up in NYC, my friends who considered themselves moderate Republicans hated taxes and regulation, but were pro-choice and pro LGBT rights.
