That seems weird since there's an overall preference for the XLs. Plus I think there are more special edition 3DS XLs than the regular. Hell even the new smash bros editions are XL only.

An external HDD for extra game storage is actually a good thing in my book. Its more flexible, cheaper, and it allows the system to run on flash memory which is a lot more durable.
