Well for one, is there any reason to believe the anonymous people? Any reason to believe they are relying on actual knowledge? The school may have to hide behind Hippa but others do not. If there was a police complaint they would have to reveal it, but there has not been one. Since when do we make headlines purely on

I’ve been trying to find that. The original complaint doesn’t list it and I haven’t seen a copy yet of the actual verdict. However, since compensatory damages are actual damages I can’t see how much can be established with evidence. Most has to be punishment to Marriott for bad behavior.

I’m confused by these stories. Every headline says “rumored sexual assault” but nothing verifiable has been put out there as to why he was expelled. Obviously it was something bad since schools don’t expel with great frequency, but where is the rape presumption coming from specifically?

They never report much on the inside baseball such as the damages case, but I can’t imagine her actual damages being established at much of this total. The majority is likely punitive damages.

agree to all of the above...though I expect the jury award to be reduced before all is said and done.

so at most she’d collect 27 Million. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is reduced on appeal (if the hotel appeals).

not necessarily, we do tend to raise boys and girls with slightly different expectations and cultural norms. As well as how we treat emotional intelligence. We do see an uptick in men killing women for trivial things and it can’t just be because men feel entitled to women’s bodies as an abstract concept.

I feel that there has been a shift in society that I can’t quite put my finger on. Obviously girls have rejected men forever. They took it like men and moved on. I don’t think it is as simple to say men feel entitled to women because there have been misogynistic men forever as well. Maybe there is something about the

I think you are wrong on this and misrepresenting my points. But, I will say you have a kick ass alias.

People who go to Yale should know the difference between copyright and trademark.

That the conversation wasn’t only about the best actor/actress categories.

“Do you really not believe that diversity is a problem in Hollywood?” Clearly since I stated the opposite time and time again in this thread. But I stated the problem was one of opportunity. The Academy can’t make those opportunities and it isn’t their fault if they aren’t presented with roles by people of color to

I’m not so sure since it is the Academy Awards and would be dropping out at the last minute. Hollywood is still a small town. Much the same that going through with it (and keeping quiet) would probably help get future roles.

Last year one of the major complaints was about Selma not being nominated for Best Picture (not an acting category).

Monetary penalties, probably not a lot and probably wouldn’t be undertaken by the Academy. However, what are the odds she would get offered another role for a long time to come?

If she pulled out of the Academy Awards it might be a long time before getting another gig.

I think it is weak to cherry pick categories in order to make an argument that is more general. That is like railing against the Foreign Film category for not having any American movies.

I’m bothered by the conclusion that the Academy is systematically keeping black people out because two years in a row the leading actor categories were all white. That is like saying the Academy is systematically anti white director because the last 4 years have gone to non-whites. A lot of blacks have both been

isn’t that kinda like the people who say Obama isn’t a black president because he is half white?

Maybe it is true because otherwise it hurts the narrative the the Academy deliberately snubbed people of color. Not only did Inarritu win two years in a row, another Mexican Alfonso Cuaron won for Gravity the year before. And Ang Lee the year before that for Life of Pi.
