I once had a decent friend who was half Hutu and half Tutsi.  He lived through the genocide and his family got out safely.  The stories he told haunt me and changed my views on so much of this.  The biggest point he made?  That the Rwandan genocide was even more complex than we understood.  We saw millions slaughtered

Not rigidly annualized, no.  That’s the gimmick of a movie and art.  But regularly?  Depends on how you define societies. Entire nations? I can’t think of many. Regions and ethnic enclaves? I think so. The Jewish experience in Russia was basically this chaotic for decades, as was the black experience in post Civil War

The Pogroms are pretty much an annual case of order-chaos-order against a minority population.

People have lived in war zones, and kids have grown up in them - we have cases we can study to see how people react.  We don’t have any real-life examples of societies going from chaos to first-world order and back again on an annual basis.

I remember reading about The Rwandan Genocide via Romeo Dallaire’s book “Shake Hands with The Devil”. Monsieur Dallaire’s account of the genocide is 1 to 1 similar to The Purge right down to how the murders were being done towards Tutsis. Except that The Rwandan Genocide was an entire month of genocide, while The

Pirate Bay would go up and running one day a year. Broadband services would strain like the sewer systems at Superbowl Halftime.

Why is it always murder?

He doesn’t believe Russia tampered with the election.... based on what?? The CIA wouldn’t speak up publicly unless it had solid evidence. So when Drumpf says something we just say ok even though it’s based on nothing factual?

And we could a had a president who studies her ass off and takes the position seriously. but you know emails and bengahzi.

Remember when he flirted with Kasich for vp, and Kasich said “what would my responsibilities be?” And Trump said “foreign and domestic policy.”

What, seriously, does this man do to stimulate his intellect? I mean, GWB wasn’t exactly brilliant, but he at least had some intellectual curiosity, if only about sports and Angela Merkle’s shoulders. WHAT does Trump, with his vast fortune, DO? Does he go to the theatre? Museums? We know he doesn’t read, and consumes

What really gets me the most angry about this isn’t that this colossal moron is running the country—it’s that he’s suggesting that Obama and every president before him were just not quite as smart as he is given that they’ve all done this, at least as far back as PBDs have been a thing.

“William Henry Harrison’s boss move of taking office them promptly dying is looking like a pretty sweet deal compared to what we’re facing”

You know why? Because he’s terrified. That’s what terrified people do: hide.

It would be nice if the simpleton Trump voters heard such absolutely deranged I’m-a-legend-in-my-own-mind ravings and thought, ‘Wow, we really effed up by voting for American Hitler.’ But they won’t.

Do they make a thesaurus or style guide with a variety of different ways to express the thought: We are so fucked!

Trump can’t read. Won’t read

I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years.

We’re all going to die. After we’ve been handed over to Russia. Orange Hitler has no idea what he’s doing.

I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years—but eight years.
