The original film was a staggeringly good adaptation of a mediocre stage show. They're just not going to be able to top it.

I hadn't seen any 'disappointment' reviews, just a lot of 'it's fine' reviews and a bunch of 'perhaps the greatest Marvel movie ever' reviews. I think it pretty much all comes down to how easily you can ignore the holes listed in the review (some of which are easier than others). If you can miss them all, the emotion

Yeah. This does not have me impressed… but I'm still going to go see it. It's Pixar. They have me forever, there is no escape.

It's far, far from their most original premise. It says a lot about Pixar's record that I'm still interested in seeing this DESPITE the crummy trailer.

…Eh.

Well, with GoT the issue isn't that the characters don't emote enough for me to empathise with them, it's that they don't stick around long enough for it to matter ;) That's part of the design, of course, but events like the beheading and the Red Wedding don't shock me as much as disappoint me. I tend to describe GoT

I know what you mean - I think it's a deliberate choice to make them all (particularly Hannibal) more mysterious, more opaque… but sometimes I just wish they'd give in and have a clear emotion! I think in general the show does a good job of making the context (through the writing and the visuals) confirm the mood of

My friend was born in Australia but is living in the UK, and she thought for a while she might have to move back but was very worried about her cat. Apparently (including time in the UK and Australia) it would have taken about 6 months to get the cat through the system. That might have been an overestimate or a worst

No. It's god-awful. The few bright spots are Tambor's scenes, but he's in less than 10 minutes of the first episode, and all of his scenes are dramatic. The comedy is so bad it isn't even discernible as comedy, it's just awful people treating each other awfully.

I understand why the Academy and the Globes would love it. I don't understand why any audience member would subject themselves to more than one episode of it (I barely made it through that).

Seriously. I love Amy Poehler, and I know the others generally give great performances, but Rodriguez was a bloody marvel from start to finish, nailing the comedy and the drama effortlessly.

How the hell was Jane the Virgin missed? Did they just not watch it because it's a CW show? Because Gina Rodriguez knocked it out of the park, consistently and effortlessly (Chapter Twenty should have been all they needed to see that).

I'd Rajah you didn't make that kind of joke, to be honest.

Yay, even more stuff to scroll through to get to the comments.

It doesn't have to be a 'director's cut', just an 'extended edition'. Peter Jackson was happy with the theatrically released Lord of the Rings films, but he preferred the longer versions (that were impractical for a theatrical release). Same here - a longer version would have been impractical for theatrical release,

That's pretty much it. Shows like DM and Duckula, as well as any of the younger skewing but still entrancing Oliver Postgate shows, were spectacular examples of creativity with minimal budget.

They didn't get much of any budget. British animated shows survived (the patriot in me is longing to say 'thrived', but that would be a lie) on a minuscule budget. But we loved 'em.

Time travel, what can you do?

Oh, that's a terrific episode. To me, it's a perfect new episode of Classic Who. I really do hope more episodes follow in its footsteps.
