    It was shown but not acknowledged a few episodes back during a flashback of Dr. Becca's disastrous A.I. experiments. The A.I. chip was bathed in the black fluid which Dr. Becca would also inject herself with. Presumably it acts as some sort of mediating agent between the host mind and the A.I. chip.
