Japan makes games set in the US, why can’t the west do the same?

You know, some of (if not all) the best fantasy medieval europe games come from Japan, I wonder if some western devs took a gamble and made a medieval fantasy japan, would that actually help? Cause I think there’s gold a-waitin’
