The South China Sea expansion is about resources and trade, but primarily China plans to use those islands to impose a naval embargo on Taiwan. Starve the island first, then invade when it’s weak. The noose is real and it explains why Taiwan is willing to blow up the regional stalemate. Time is not on their side.
