I wonder if the wiper was replaced after being damaged and the replacement wasn’t an OEM part or perhaps something that was sourced from a junk yard and already aging or not properly treated to be corrosion resistant. Also the kayak on top if used in the ocean, salt water might have caused this corrosion.
