I could practically hear June thinking "Big fucking deal, you creep."

I thought they played White Rabbit because of Moira's white rabbit ears.

I didn't think it was all that weird. She could have written a famous Italian cookbook or something.

Was just thinking again on the "trading fertile women to Mexico" idea. It's disgusting, of course, but I do suspect the Mexicans would treat retired handmaids with more kindness than Gilead does.

I was a little confused by the genesis of the group that rescued Luke. I had assumed that they were a resistance squad patrolling the border to rescue refugees and take out Guardians, but I've seen them called a fellow group of refugees on the way to Canada, which doesn't make sense to me.

I liked that last part (with the neighbor being sympathetic and helpful) as well - I really felt Luke and June's panic upon seeing him and the barking dog, and was glad that he came to help them. I wonder how their guide got caught.

Just watched the show. Is there some kind of special gravity well on the Canadian border that makes vehicles randomly crash?

I found myself wondering how they even managed to calculate a percentage of carbon emission reduction, considering they hanged all the scientists.

I suppose it's possible that she had sex with a male volunteer to conceive.

On another note, I was a little surprised at how chatty/irreverent the handmaids were this episode, especially since they were under direct Aunt supervision. ("Small dick, big mouth.) Who's that one handmaid who laid it out the real trade deal for June? She sounds like a Mayday operative.

Rita is still a minor character, but I love her. The actress does a lot with the few lines she has - I've grown to appreciate her wry sense of humor (and that she finds Nick kind of annoying). I think she's becoming a low-key ally of June's.

Maybe she'll keep showing up with more parts missing after each act of rebellion. Got to keep those ovaries, though!

Do you think they try to kind of match the appearance of the handmaids to the wives, or are handmaids so scarce they don't bother?

Not sure. I do love German Shepherds, though. Having a pet in Gilead would be such a relief from unrelenting misery. I wonder if they have dog runs.

I appreciated that Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi were the two title characters of this movie (Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon), despite the billing.

I'm almost positive Serena Joy worked in PR based on this episode.

This might be out of left field, but I wonder if people are allowed to have pets in Gilead. I don't think there's anything explicit about keeping companion animals in the Bible (except maybe for the "dominion over creation" thing. Maybe it's considered frivolous?

I could see Serena Joy's mind snap into focus when she thought she'd have a chance to strategize with her husband, and how bitterly disappointed she was when he dismissed her. (And how she stared longingly at that laptop, with all its news and words.)

I could also see records of same-sex marriages being destroyed by resistance workers within the incipient Gilead regime as an attempt at protection.

I teared up when Offred mentioned that there was still a US flag, but it only had two stars.
