Sister in Law has been making this for over 20 years. I was wildly skeptical the first time. It’s shockingly great. Thanks for helping spread the word!

HAHA! I have the exact same bike. It’s the shit. I don’t need a 17,000 redline or 160hp with a 212mph top speed. I had been drooling over all the ‘funk’ you mentioned for 10+ years. Finally got mine for only $2,300. (!!!) Worth every penny. It’s so cool & weird.
I f’n love reading these posts where otherwise ridiculous ‘detail-oriented’ people like us dork out about taillights/turn signals. I thought I was the only one for so long.
If you wanna open up a lot of possibilities for stem/handlebar combos, consider one of these threaded to threadless adapter. Then you can pop on a modern stem AND upgrade to bigger 31.8 diameter handlebars (does the pic even show up correctly?)
Mostly agree but a Chris King headset is huge overkill, especially that this price point. Also, slapping on a new chain may snowball into much bigger problems (now you gotta replace freewheel/cassette, chainrings) Can you even find those parts now?? So you go from a $15 chain to $15 (chain) + $40 (obscure freewheel) +…
Roast that transmission - is it worth a damn? Does it just feel like a ‘tuned’ automatic? (versus a DSG or what have you...)
Right? I ride with earplugs 99% of the time. The other day ran a quick errand, rode for 10 minutes with 4 minutes on the highway (70 mph) on a naked bike (buell) with a full face. My ears still hurt days later.
I swear, compared to the rest of the Jalop staff, you disproportionately have some of the dumbest commentary directed at you . I don’t get why this kinda shit is attracted to you. It’s like any time there an article by you, vultures start circling and elephants start pooping.
No one for a VW VR6???
Totally. I had a 1991 90 Quattro 20V, frickin sweet! Redlined at like 7,oooRPM. That thing was so advanced for it’s time. That balance was really bad, so much understeer...so much drunk rhino
What little things annoy you? I mean about the bike. Bad turn signal Position? Numb throttle feel? Brakes that work great but feel like squeezing semi-frozen Jello? Gauges intuitive? Wind buffeting at specific speeds?
Preach on! I’m in your choir.

Yeah, def not an average rider kinda thing.

Here’s mine, 2x 1998 VW GTI VR6 - one a beat 200K mile east coast rust bucket part time rallycross car and the other an 120K garage find in amazing condition. Same cars. Totally different cars. The 120K (on the left) is my daily.
Oh man, come to Seattle - there’s so many people living/visiting from British Columbia that the novelty has almost worn off. Some of the coolest vans around and they’re all trying to ‘outkit’ each other, kinda hilarious.
Gonna be replacing the timing chain tensioner on my Mk5 GTI. It’s like a hand grenade with no pin.
