In the US, the Golf GTI/Golf R LED tail lights are not legal due to a “minimum illuminated area” requirement for turn signals.

It’s a handsome car, but is anyone else seeing Lincoln Continental in the rear?
If you’re going to compare the speaker to the actual exhaust tips, at least get the generation correct. The photo shows a 997 GT3, while the speaker is most likely modeled after the 991...
Really living up to the “whiney” part of your username. Washing and waxing my car (and headlights) seems to have worked pretty well for me over the last 10 or so years. Never said you had to do it too.
See my comment posted on another response. My 97 Civic also still has pristine lenses. It’s all about general upkeep and care. Regular washes and such are key.
How are you going to compare plastic lenses to glass sealed beams?
I have adaptive/dynamic HIDs as well. But make sure you’re not confusing high beam assist with fully selective beams a la Audi Matrix LED lighting. Those are not approved in the US.
No. I mean that these new technologies are either restricted in the US or are still subject to regulations that originated in the 50's. They have not been updated to reflect the advances that have been made.
Sure you should. Just like you need to wash and wax your paint to keep it protected over time.
They’ll still look as good as new. I live in Florida and park outdoors 24/7... I know how to take care of my car, thanks very much. Even my old 97 Honda Civic had pristine lenses. Regular washes and care is key.
Antiquated lighting regulations, actually. The rest of the world enjoys new lighting tech and performance while we’re stuck in the 50's. Many European cars offer LED and even laser headlights with adaptive aiming and selective high beams to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. But we can’t have any of it.
Because people don’t care for their cars and keep them clean and protected from the elements. 3+ years with my car and my headlight lenses look as good as new thanks to regular washes and coats of wax/sealant.
Aston Martin DBS in manual.
I think we’re saying the same thing in different ways lol. I’m on your side. But these aren’t annoying to other drivers like eBay HID kits are. They’re literally a slightly cooler color temp with the same brightness and aiming as any other halogen.

Not sure what you’re going on about. OEM HID bulbs are almost always 4300k (warm, but white), with OEM LED setups being 5500-6000k (crisp white, leaning to the cool side). Bottom line is that proper HID or LED setups are infinitely brighter and safer (when aimed and used correctly).

You’re right that “bluer” light is harder to see and has fewer effective lumens. But Halogens are definitely not 4000-4500k lol. 2700k? I prefer not to have candles as headlights, thanks very much. It’s not the color that’s the issue - it’s the morons who run HIDs in non-HID housings.

To be fair, the “horror” stories you’ve heard are all anecdotal as well. Do keep in mind that for every horror story you hear about, there are ten times as many non-stories of people enjoying the cars as intended.
Agreed. My favorite automotive YouTuber is Mr.JWW. A genuine and humble guy who is great at bringing his viewers along for the epic journeys he finds himself on. Really awesome content.
