In a perfect world if someone were spouting off with racism it’d be fine to knock them to the ground. If someone spit on you, it’d be fine to beat their ass once they’re on the ground.

I have been incredibly impressed with the restraint people have in the face of these bigots. I haven’t personally come across anything like this myself but if I did I don’t know if I’d be able to handle it with any sort of class or calm. I’d like to think I would, but just watching this crap gets my blood boiling.

I can pretty much handle dumbass racists saying whatever racist shit they want. But you spit on me...nah. All bets are off then.

Hello_America is not saying to hire an unqualified POC over a qualified white person, and if, with all this discussion, you took that comment to simply mean “disregard merit,” then you are in denial at best, continuing to be willfully ignorant at worst. Or you just didn’t actually read the comment. And, no, I’m not

please stop. are you trolling or simply too tone deaf to understand the words you’re typing? Slave breeding was not “mostly a myth”...it was actual; and even if Black Americans won the genetic physical lottery, that is not to be equated with the immoral, unlawful racist privilege that comes with marginalizing an

racism is malice.

A lot of racism, in my opinion, is based on ignorance rather than malice.

Darion,

uhh...you’re actually trying to equate 400 years of enslavement/Jim Crow segregation/institutional bias by law and social tradition with athletic prowess that was developed in an environment where it is presumed that the playing field is equal. Secondly, privilege is advantage bestowed by outside factors; excellence

Never too late for some Dr. King :)

Plenty of people skate by, myself included. Working hard enough to not be in trouble is a thing, and works very well IMO. I can’t speak to your company or situation, just my own, but I started 3 years ago, got a bonus and a raise, and would have expected the same for someone working harder than I was.

That part of his comment pissed me off. He called it black privilege that blacks dominate the NBA. Wrong, wrong, WRONG. It’s the result of slave masters trying to breed bigger stronger laborers.

From what I have learned, as a white person: If you want to be helpful, read a ton of things all over the internet written by people of color about what they want in an ally. You’ll get variation but the themes are the same. One of the biggies is to educate yourself (rather than demand education out of those around

Also part of white male privilege is that we’re taught to stand up for ourselves and challenge authority if we are being mistreated because “the worst they can say is no”. Minority populations face a different equation where there are more potential consequences than simple rejection. This sounds like one of the times

I was once suspended from a white family run business. My position was office admin but I had warehouse experience so when they wanted to open a new warehouse I offered my assistance from every aspect. I cleaned, opened early to let contractors in, and even designed the layout while driving the forklift to fill the

White privilege is a reality, of course; I was born with it and enjoyed its benefits all my life. But now that I’ve acknowledged it, where do we go from here?

Why should he? The company lost out on a valuable employee and he’s making more money. Plus, say he fights it, he’ll still have to work for a company where he has to fight to be considered equal. While you should always strive to be your best, you shouldn’t have to strive to be considered an equal.

He went to another company for a 30% wage increase. It’s not the answer you want, but it was easier to just gtfo than fight.

Anecdotal evidence: A close coworker of mine didn’t get a bonus or a raise this year. Keep in mind he got 4/5 on his evaluation (5/5 basically means you’re being promoted), is friendly with everyone on the team, shows up early, the whole 9 yards. Their reason? “You weren’t here for the full year so you’re not eligible
