You shouldn’t be able to slip between a Meredith Baxter Birney/Joanna Kerns vibe and a " superpowerful being you don't want to mess with" vibe this easily and yet somehow she's doing it. In a different way Bettany's sitcom dad facade slipping into outrage and confusion is also really well done.

Family Ties with maybe a touch of Growing Pains?

Captain von Trapp, my first celebrity crush. A great Sherlock Holmes in the fun, deeply silly Murder by Decree.

Someone somewhere has pitched a Doc Savage movie to Dwayne Johnson, right?

Nominating The Great for Ensemble and Hoult but not nominating Fanning is bizarre. I would probably lose Applegate for Fanning, though Applegate is very funny.

She is incredible in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.

A standout even on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, maybe the greatest sitcom cast ever. RIP.

I also thought Stewart was terrific in the not very good Seberg and in Certain Women. Admittedly, no one comes out of the Twilight movies looking great. (Well, maybe Michael Sheen for the sheer what-the-fuckness of his performance.)

One of my big conclusions from rewatching most of the entire series over the past year was that there may not be a satisfying way to write off a companion. Drop them off back home? Anti-climactic (and almost always hard to believe - if you’d rather have your own boring life back than all of time and space, you never

One of the warmest, most comforting singing voices in all of music.

That’s nice (though I’ve always found Charlie Brown Thanksgiving so, so boring).

Baldwin and Grammer seem like a better fit for some adult animated show where they can use their best asset, those voices, and won’t have to be rage-depressed or exhausting on set with other actors for long weeks at a time. And for actors who would be about the right age for the third cast member, if they’re all

I hope she lands a better job in a better working environment. She and Ali Wong have both been really wasted on this show.

Oh, I enjoyed the first Fantastic Beasts movie a lot. Charming, visually inventive, likable performances from the supporting cast, a memorable villain turn from Farrell. COG was a sprawling fucking mess, unfortunately, and weirdly sidelined Newt (in hindsight, I really appreciate the shades of rage and self doubt that

Richard Matheson’s Hell House, despite a few silly reveals towards the end it is the more overtly sexual and violent brother of Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House. Or Ray Russell’s The Case Against Satan, which got under my skin in a way The Exorcist doesn't.

Peter Cushing is one of my favorite film actors (the dude was just always reliable and classy, even in absolute disasters). I think some of the later Frankensteins give him more of a chance to add shade and nuance to Frankenstein (heck, in Frankenstein Created Woman he shows actual sympathy to the “monster”) but Curse

That’s a good role for her. Like Byrne in his more sympathetic roles, she is great at conveying empathy and seeming to really listen to other people.

The show got so boring once I realized that, faced with two choices, Sabrina will always make the one guaranteed to make everyone miserable.

What is the upside of ever attacking a reboot of your old show? Fans of the original already likely agree with you but don't want to be forced to defend or attack you. Fans and creators of the new one are going to see you as punching down or being bitter. If the reboot fails having said nothing will seem gracious. If

My favorite Psych episode. Just a sublime use of Tim Curry.
