Overlord was such fun. It seems to have disappeared without much notice.

It was never going to happen but I wish Into the Spider Verse had scored a Screenplay nomination. There’s genuine structural cleverness and thematic and character depth in that movie. Also, what does Emily Blunt have to do to win over Oscar voters? She was the best part of both A Quiet Place and Mary Poppins Returns.

Happy to see McCarthy and Grant nominated. Two terrific performances in a movie I thought was fading a bit from awards conversations. Wish the other Grant got Supporting Actor love for Paddington 2.

Modern Family went to Disneyland. Jay cried at the Hall of Presidents and Gloria bought fabulous Disney footwear. It was so deeply shameless.

I mean, the Disney Parks have had sponsors and shameless corporate shilling since opening day at Disneyland.  I don’t know that “tie-in comic promoting theme park” seems any worse than “ride where General Motors shows us the fabulous future brought to you by General Motors” or “AT&T brings you the wonders of

I feel like Tahani has really fallen out of focus this season. Other than that encounter with her sister she's been mostly relegated to nice small moments (like trying to help Janet and Jason last time) and a few scattered jokes like the admittedly funny scarf bit.

Of course we all knew Hitchcock and Scully didn't steal the money for themselves- this just isn't that kind of show - but the revelation that they were looking out for somebody was a nice one. Microwaving fish is an office felony. Boyle, you're a big city detective and apparently a good one. How can you be this naive?

I love Monopoly. There is no thrill to equal slowly driving your closest friends and family to bankruptcy. (And, people, stop giving players money for landing on Free Parking or doubling their money if they land exactly on Go - you're just making the game longer!).

I know it's ridiculous to complain about Theron being underrated given that she's an Oscar winning world famous actor but she just continually surprises me.

I saw The Wife on a long flight. Close is predictably terrific in it but the movie around her is a second rate HBO movie.

Rewatching Unbreakable this week in preparation for this movie, I was really struck by how good Willis is in it. It’s a quiet, wounded performance but also one where you feel the bond between him and his son and the basic decency of this guy who really doesn’t understand himself. I wish we got that Willis more often.

Hunchback may have the most ambitious songs and score of any Disney movie and some of its strongest voice performances. Though, yeah, the gargoyles are irritating.

I saw the Hello, Dolly! revival on Broadway last year and talked to folks in the audience who had crystal clear memories of seeing Channing in it decades ago - gestures she made, the particular way she said a line, her entrances.

This was a pretty lousy rehash of better episodes, though it did make me laugh a couple of times (I liked the joke about having to move because of his research on the harmful effects of moving children).

Yeah, in some ways Tony was much more constrained in his choices than Walt ever was. He had no legitimate, safe exit route from an early age. Though I appreciate that the show is brutally honest about how Tony will never change and will drag his children down with him despite sincerely loving them. Whether he died

They are almost certain at this point to have at least two legitimate blockbusters nominated for big awards (Black Panther and A Star is Born, maybe Bohemian Rhapsody). Don’t ratings usually go up in years where big popular successes are nominated? If they can't get a ratings bump from a superhero movie getting

I feel like you might lure Streep in with an accent - maybe from some mythical country like Latveria.

Absolutely agree. It's been mostly lauded for its performances and understandably so but it also has the feel of a director with a light touch but also a complete picture of what story she's telling and the world it takes place in.

I thought Baby Photographer Barbie was a joke but it somehow actually exists. Is that really somebody's dream profession at age 7?

The show is great. Those commercials are awful and really misrepresent the tone of the show.
