I think it’s pretty “callous and unfair” for you to assume that this woman was lying about being raped—and before you claim that you didn’t, that is the necessary corollary to Hopkins being innocent of raping her.

Holy intentional manufactured outrage, Batman.
True, though I’d remind you that that’s a character and not a real person. I can’t think of an actual serial rapist of women who identified as gay.
It worked for Lana del Rey and hipsters.
No, I’ve been advised it’s a little too ugly and misanthropic for me. Why do you ask?
Of *course* sexuality is a spectrum. Colors are also a spectrum, but we have names for them so we can communicate with others about them. If I arbitrarily decide that red is blue, then I’ve broken with those conventions and am no longer using generally-agreed-upon definitions. In that situation, I might be right, but…
I mean, words do have meanings. ‘Homosexual’ does mean that you are attracted to members of the same sex. ‘Bisexual’ means that you are attracted to members of either sex.
I can’t really respond to your anecdotal evidence. I’ve never met a gay man who enthusiastically loves having sex with women. That seems to defeat the purpose of being gay.
I’d say I’m very unaware of it. To be perfectly frank, I don’t have many lesbian friends, so I may have a bit of a blind spot here.
That sounds freaking horrific.
Look, everyone has an opinion on the socially acceptable way to handle rape accusations. Listen and believe; trust but verify, etc. Jezebel’s got a pretty firm stance toward the former, or they wouldn’t have published the allegations in the first place. I accepted that as a matter of course in this discussion.
And I’d remind you that you are currently commenting on an article about someone else’s sexual activities, so maybe come down off of your high horse. Thanks.
Gotcha. Sorry, I didn’t understand where you were going with that from the original phrasing.
Explain?
Are you asking why it is that I’m upset by an alleged rapist who also may be profiting off of cultural appropriation?
You have my genuine sympathies.
I stand up for anyone dating according to their preferences. I’m half-Asian and “pass” as white, but I’ve had guys stop responding to me once I tell them that I’m not full white. I know many men who refuse to date any black men.
I’m trying for specificity here. You’re right, I should’ve just referred to Hopkins as Hopkins, but I didn’t look into Hopkins’s preferences when I typed my post. Like I said, I was entirely thrown by the band using a piece of gay community lingo when at least half of the band does not seem to identify as gay.
But their band name is something that’s heavily linked to one specific gender and one specific sexual preference. That’s why I’m confused.
That does lend a little context to it. Thank you.
I’m not queerphobic or homophobic. I’m as gay as they come. As I mentioned in another response, power bottoms are indelibly linked to the gay community. If neither member is a gay male, why coopt that lingo?
