The comparison pages from The Vampire of Prague really show how much better Hellboy is when it's drawn by Mignola. To be fair, though, I think The Vampire of Prague is probably the weakest Hellboy story in the series in terms of art. Usually the fill-in artists do a fine job, but that one really didn't feel like

What's the consensus on the best jumping-off point for The Walking Dead? I read trades 1-9 and basically gave up on it when shit went down at the end of (SPOILERS?) the prison bit. I may have been a bit bleaked out by that point. Also I think that was around the time that Kirkman was writing Ultimate X-men, and I

Comics: No girly bullshit, thanks.

Yeah, a hardcover on Comixology? How does that work? Does it just mean it comes with the same extra content that the actual hardcover would come with?

Don't skip the last arc!

Man, Exiles was a really good book for a little while, wasn't it? I enjoyed the heck out of that title, with Blink, Nocturne, Mimic, Morph, Sunfire. Great stuff.

Well said, Jordo. This is my go-to place for comics discussion on the net (even if I am often a day late to the discussion). It bothers me to see it shitted up by some obnoxious jerk crying "fanboy" when pretty much all everyone wants to do here is talk about good comics week after week.

Woah.

Yeah that one panel has pretty much sold me. Beta-ray Bill!

I'm actually getting behind the idea of renumbering whenever a new creative team takes over a book. They generally do that with collected editions anyway, and I think it makes sense given the current emphasis that's placed on "superstar" writers and artists.

Wait, so you're saying Marvel won't permanently kill off one of their biggest characters? That this is just a marketing stunt to boost readership? That he'll be back, probably within 6-12 months?

While I don't exactly count myself as a fan, I honestly do think Millar has done some pretty good work: Red Son, The Ultimates, Ultimate X-men, even his brief Fantastic Four run — I think they are all good comics. But even his best work can be very derivative, eg. The Ultimates is basically Marvel's The Authority. His

Huh? How can Frank Quitely's art be the thing you hate about Jupiter's Legacy?!

This week I read KING CITY by Brandon Graham, which was a really fun read, especially for all the detailed future-scapes and dumb puns. The plot was pretty light and fluffy but it was full of crazy ideas (cat periscope) and it was just so nice to look at (alien creatures, asses). It's good stuff.

It's definitely worth getting that first Zero trade for the visuals alone. The story is also great, but damn the art is amazing. It's the poster child for the importance of colourists in comics; as Oliver Sava discussed a little while back, Jordie Bellaire is doing awesome work in it.

Prophet! A completely wild sci-fi weirdfest full of imaginative, far-out concepts and beautiful art.

Oh I keep meaning to check out those Glory trades. Thanks for reminding me!

I read the review of Shutter above and was just like, "Goddamnit, Image, stop making me buy all your goddamn excellent comics."

To the beemobile!

Come on, man. There are plenty of criticisms you can lay on Bendis, but if you were never into Ultimate Spider-man then you're definitely in the minority. I loved it myself and I've heard nothing but praise for it pretty much everywhere.
