Your body overheats. The temperature in Death Valley in July is usually at least 110' Fahrenheit. That heat, coupled with physical activity, is more than enough to make your body overheat. If it's not cooled back down then you will die.

I've been there in July. Lasted about 15 minutes outside of the car before my face turned bright red and I started feeling faint. I can't imagine anyone wanting to hike in such conditions :(
