Hot take: Ryan Reynolds is a try-hard. He’s Anne Hathaway without the acting ability.

No, they never do, but at least I’m not the only one that saw it and groaned

fucking thank you. that was killing me

i have never once heard a woman complain of this fear, but i guess thats not relevant.

Every time I’ve rejected a man, especially a stranger in unpredictable circumstances (like in a bar, when they might be drunk), I was afraid that this could be the time that it escalated and I wound up hurt or dead. Every time.

I see what you’re saying. It would be like an article about a 14 year-old boy who wants to be the first player in the NBA to wear a kippah, but who can’t shoot a basket. We can applaud the dream, and understand the need for diversity in the sport, but also recognize that it’s just not going to happen.

Non-Sequitur: I teach middle school and yesterday, when speaking to a student, I said something was “tight” and she was baffled. She thought I meant her pants were too tight. Explaining that it was slang from way, way back in the good ‘ol days made me want to weep.

I didn’t know that about the dialect coaches... that makes me even more pleased! I might have been unclear regarding my phrasing; I meant that since the main characters are white, it’s their story and their perspective being portrayed. Perhaps the fact that Iñárritu is a POC makes him more considerate of other

I’m glad to hear it! Maybe I’ve just been in a bubble; I only saw The Revenant last weekend and I try to shield myself from too many reviews and trailers before I see a movie so I could have missed the whole debate.

I am surprised that there hasn’t been more discussion about the native actors in The Revenant. Now, in some ways I’m not surprised at all that there’s been little discussion, since it’s a white man’s story told from a white man’s perspective, but I breathed such a deep sigh of relief when I saw that native actors

This was a great visual! It really solidifies the issue for me to see it in such obvious, concrete terms. I mean, I know the lack of diversity in film is important and pervasive, but this really hit it home.

Yeah, I have a really high sensitivity to a lot of animal fibers. Alpaca, angora, and wool that’s not merino all make me an itchy, trashy mess. It gives me carte blanche to buy lovely superwash merino yarn (when the wallet allows), but it makes buying yarn or kits a real hassle. I’ll have to check out the Lion Brand

Take heart, every knitter out there has languished in the “Really good at rectangles and not much else" phase!

Is this an Outlander-inspired knit? Because I already love it, but that would really push me over the envy-edge.

Ditto this. YouTube is the best knitting teacher i know.

Apparently just writing a response acknowledging my knit-crastination was all I needed, because now it’s all set and ready for blocking! Starting is always WAY more fun than finishing. It’s one of the unchanging Rules of Creating. Way more fun thinking of the next thing than finishing the current one!!

Yay knitting thread on Jez! I’ve got 5% left on a Christmas sweater I need by next Friday, but I’m terrible at finishing projects so I spent this afternoon cataloguing my stash and winding all the yarn for my next project instead of finishing. I don’t know why I do this to myself. I only have the collar to do and then

My best friend became a manager at VS and told me that they routinely size people wrong so that they won’t have to turn customers away when they don’t fit into their size range. :(

Gonna jump on this bandwagon and say that I was a devoted VS fanatic all through high school and college, but I had an eye-opening conversation with my best friend when she became a manager there. She said that VS will knowingly size people wrong in order to keep them in the store and get that $$$. Their range of

This needs more stars. Another nuanced discussion about “all brown people are dangerous, more spying and security checks” is not going to do fuck all. The international community is not going to be glued to their tv screens to watch something going on in fucking Des Moines.
